4th Ward School Coplin, Willis Morris, Richard Bentley, Richard Purse, Mrs. Duplicate copies of photo in store room, 5-drawer cabinet, drawer 2. ST. GEORGE FOURTH WARD SCHOOLHOUSE – COMPLETED IN 1868 The Fourth Ward building was located on lot 6, block 29, plat A. It was a two-story building erected by Willis Coplin, but was not completed as planned. Willis Coplin, Richard Morris and Richard Bentley were the school trustees at that time. In 1869, Richard Horne taught the higher-grade school in the upper room of this building; the lower grade teacher, Mrs. Purse, using the basement. The First, Second and Third Ward buildings were used five days a week for school, and Saturday and Sunday for church activities. The Fourth Ward building was used for school only, as the St. George Hall was used for church gatherings until the completion of the Tabernacle basement, when it was used for meetings and religious services for the Fourth Ward.
